Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
Provides executive leadership, policy direction, and strategic oversight of management and legal policy development/initiatives of the Accreditation Project of the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Accountable leader for the operations of the Division and provides legal expertise, policy direction and strategic oversight for the legal policy initiatives of the Association as it relates to the accreditation of law schools in the United States.
Functions as a principal ABA spokesperson to the legal profession, the judiciary, law schools, law students, and the public on regulatory issues relating to the accreditation of law schools in the United States.
Leads, develops, and is accountable for the accreditation process, including site visits, site reports, and the work of the three key accreditation-related committees (Accreditation, Standards Review, and Data Policy and Collection.
Provides regulatory, accreditation, and educational expertise, analyses, consultation, and guidance to law schools and those seeking accreditation regarding the interpretation and applications of Standards and Rules of Procedure for Approval of Law Schools.
Proactively develops, fosters, and maintains positive relationships with law school deans, legislators, and state bars to ensure currency of legal information which may impact the Standards and Rules of Procedure for Approval of Law Schools.
Accountable for maintaining the accreditation process so that fair and equitable treatment of all law schools is assured and that law school graduates will be adequately trained to enter the profession of law.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
Possession of a Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
At least 15 years’ experience in law school administration, teaching law at an ABA-accredited law school, practicing law, and/or administration of a national, state, or local bar organization with responsibility for management, financial administration, strategic planning, and resource development.
Previous experience in the practice or teaching of law which has resulted in peer recognition status as an expert on legal education and its role in the overall development and health of the legal profession.
Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience
Previous experience as a Dean or Associate Dean of Law at an ABA-accredited law school.
Previous experience in a leadership position within a not-for-profit, law school, and/or Association environment.
