PROS SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBLE TO: PROS Program Manager
To provide support and linkage to consumers enrolled in the Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) Programs, Behavioral Health Home and Community Based Services, and/or
Outpatient Clinic Programs, in an effort to empower them to become more involved in their personalized recovery goals. The PROS Specialist will also provide education and peer advocacy to
consumers and family members when necessary. Will act in supportive role for the professional staff as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Will also assist with Consumer Board
representation, community living exploration in the recipients’ environment maximizing supports that occur naturally, and will serve as an advocate for family members, legal/forensic support, and outreach and engagement efforts. Will advocate for wellness/self-management and self-help concepts within several environments, including resource allocation, and assisting the recipient to overcome community barriers to recovery.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must possess an in-depth and thorough understanding of the nature of mental illness, severe and persistent mental illness, and addictions. Must be
self-directed and self-motivated. Must possess a strong understanding of the client-centered approach and possess knowledge of or ability to learn the philosophy of empowerment. Must be well organized, demonstrate the ability to manage time effectively and demonstrate ability to maintain accurate records. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with clients, families, clinicians and others involved in the provision of mental health services and community supports. Must possess comprehensive knowledge of community and agency resources. Willingness and ability to travel throughout the assigned service area. Physical condition or reasonable
accommodation(s) commensurate with the demands of the job.
Current New York State Driver’s License or knowledge of the use of the public transit system for travel throughout Chautauqua County daily is essential. Certification as a Peer Specialist and fluent bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) are strongly preferred.
PROS Specialist I:
High School Diploma/GED
Must be eligible for or have a provisional certification, and/or is currently certified as a Certified Peer Specialist by New York State:
If eligible for a Provisional Peer Certification, all certification requirements as outlined by the New York Peer Specialist Certification Board (http://nypeerspecialist.org/) must be accomplished within (3) three months of hire
Eligibility requires that an individual have lived life experience with mental health/and or substance use barriers
PROS Specialist II:
Associate’s Degree and a provisional certification, or currently certified as a Certified Peer Specialist by New York State.
PROS Specialist III:
Bachelor’s Degree and a provisional certification, or is currently certified as a Certified Peer Specialist by New York State.
