Epidemiologist - ETT
Eagle Global Scientific is recruiting an Epidemiologist to aid the mission of CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD). This center works to prevent or reduce the adverse consequences of birth defects and developmental disabilities by tracking and monitoring birth defects and developmental disabilities; conducting research into their causes and risk factors; and developing and implementing programs and strategies to prevent birth defects and developmental disabilities and to improve outcomes for affected individuals.
The position would be with the Emerging Threats Team (ETT) with partial support to Prevention Research Team (PRT), which works to significantly reduce death and lifelong disability due to neural tube defects (NTDs) & other birth defects. PRT’s focus regions are in the U.S. as well as elsewhere around the world such as Southeast Asia and East Africa where there is a high burden with very little reliable existing data. Their approach is to (1) build international capacity to inform birth defects prevention; (2) establish and conduct high-quality surveillance that informs fortification policy (birth defects surveillance, biomarker surveillance); and (3) identify, codify, and conduct research on best and promising practices for effective implementation of food fortification (implementation science, research/evidence base).
This position supports CDC by providing programmatic and science support to reduce death and lifelong disabilities resulting from neural tube defects. Requirements include data analytic support, training support assistance with birth defects surveillance in Southeast Asia and Africa; and delivering technical support and implementing domestic and international programs related to neural tube defects.
The candidate would serve in an Epidemiologist/Biostatistician role to provide statistical/programming support of ongoing projects related to Zika, food fortification, and neural tube defect surveillance. The candidate will be involved in analyzing qualitative and quantitative datasets and present findings at meetings and/or conferences (domestic and foreign). The broad range of projects that the epidemiologist/biostatistician will support includes, but is not limited to:
- Analysis of birth defects surveillance data
- Analysis and replication of studies in VEZ, ZEN, and SET-NET
- Analysis of genetic and epigenetic data (Illlumina 450K) from folic acid intervention studies
- Analysis of genetic polymorphisms and the response to folic acid intake
- Provide technical assistance to nutritional surveys for food fortification demonstration projects
Necessary Qualifications:
- Doctoral (preferred) or masters’ level training in biostatistics or epidemiology (MPH minimum)
- 3+ years’ experience working with public health programs

- Excellent English oral and written communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; willingness to learn new software
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a team environment with support of supervisor and senior staff
