Engineer II - Cryogenic Semiconductor Device Measurement and Analysis
Located in Malibu, California, HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.
EDUCATION DESIRED: Master’s degree in applied physics, electrical engineering, or physics or a Bachelor’s degree in one of those fields with at least 2 years postgraduate work experience in a relevant field.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conduct low-noise cryogenic measurements of nano-electronic devices. Summarize technical results, using oral presentations and written reports, to team to aid in rapid maturation of device performance. Improve upon existing measurement techniques, in terms of precision or throughput, through software automation, hardware innovation, or technical insights. Must be able to troubleshoot measurements and distinguish device issues from instrumentation problems.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in cryogenic device testing, with exposure to signal modulation/demodulation techniques and cryogenic test equipment operation. Programming experience (C, C++, Matlab, Python, or any other modern language) in a laboratory environment for data acquisition and analysis is strongly desired. Experience with semiconductor devices is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Basic understanding of semiconductor device physics, including band theory and the principles of FET operation. A working understanding of analog electronics (through coursework or previous work experience) and its use in a modern laboratory setting is also desired. In addition, the ability to apply understanding of basic physics learned through courses to analyze and understand experimental data is strongly desired.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to climb ladders to use elevated test equipment. Must be able to work safely in a laboratory environment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (e.g. driver’s license special tools or restrictions): U.S. Citizenship. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
HRL offers a very competitive compensation and benefits package. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K match, gym facilities, PTO, growth potential, and an exciting and challenging work environment.
