Program Manager, Marketing & Communications, Pets for Life

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, is seeking a Program Manager, Marketing and Communications for our Pets for Life (PFL) team. In this position, your main responsibility will be to direct and implement strategies for mentorship partners of PFL, including marketing and communications, fundraising, and sustainability. You will also build capacity for the program and partners to strengthen positioning as a leader in the field.
 

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic direction and support to mentorship partners and supported organizations of Pets for Life, including Board members, Executive Directors, and outreach staff;

  • Advising on and guiding sustainability, organizational culture, marketing and fundraising opportunities, and barriers impacting pet ownership in underserved communities;

  • Developing and supporting high-level program marketing materials, communication tools, reports, and donor/foundation proposals, including resources distributed to elevate the program nationally and internationally;

  • Supervising work with mentorship partners on building capacity to develop customized communications and fundraising plans, generate revenue opportunities, diversify donor bases, write grant applications and create donor proposals and integrated marketing campaigns;

  • Developing and directing the use of guides, tools, and trainings for mentorship partners to grow and sustain their programs;

  • Directing, building and growing strategic program partnership, coordinating with staff, consultants, and partners to resource development for program effectiveness and sustainability;

  • Collaborating with the Senior Director on fundraising and communications activities including with large donors;

  • Developing and providing program presentations, workshops, and meetings;

  • Assisting in overall strategic planning for Pets for Life in collaboration with staff, other departments, and mentorship partners.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or another related field, or equivalent work experience, required;

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in brand management, marketing, program development, or another related field required;

  • Supervisory/management experience is preferred;

  • Willing and able to travel;

  • Ability to lead and guide staff to meet department and organizational goals;

  • Flexible, willing to learn, and anticipates the needs of self and staff;

  • Ability to set a positive tone for employees during their day;

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; self-motivated and proactive;

  • Ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution and conflict management with excellent interpersonal and intervention skills;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Interpersonal and public speaking skills to build relationships, develop influence, and facilitate meetings; high standards of tact, diplomacy and discretion;

  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;

  • Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
