Environmental Education - Program Instructor II Flat Rock River YMCA Camp -St. Paul, IN.
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Naturalist/Instructor provides leadership and instruction in Outdoor Environmental Education; adventure learning, teen leadership, belaying and ropes course facilitation, group camping/family camping and conferences. Naturalists/Instructors participate in staff training, resulting in successful ability to teach the majority of classes and activities for OEE program with an understanding of background information and theory.
Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years and have a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and a BS/BA related degree and/or equivalent experience with youth/families in recreational or educational settings preferred. Current Lifeguard Certification or the ability to acquire is a plus. CPR and First Aid certifications will be part of staff training and are required by the start of programming. Successful candidates must be able to effectively operate in a team atmosphere. Strong skills in relating to and modeling exemplary behavior around adults and children. Ability to learn educational content of classes, natural science, group development, values, challenge education, history, arts and crafts, environmental studies, recreation, and outdoor skills. Personal management skills including being on time, well prepared, and organized. A willingness to work in an outdoor setting. Flexibility to adapt to changing needs of school groups, program schedules, work within a staff team. Writing and design skills to create lesson plans, program schedules, and teaching materials.
