Position Summary

Directs shipping department. Plan, implement and control the picking, packing, and shipping of finished goods. Keep all warehouses organized, clean and safe.

 

Primary Functions:

  • Directs and coordinates activities of warehouse personnel concerned with documentation and routing of outgoing freight.
  • Develops methods and procedures for transportation finished goods from departments to customers or warehouse locations.
  • Review all operations in the department continuously to ensure safe operation by employees
  • Directs activities concerned with compiling monthly and annual shipment and cargo statistics and expenses.
  • Plan and implement the orders to be picked and packed based on customer service data (ship date, carrier, pooling, etc.)
  • Maintain proper housekeeping throughout all areas and proper storage procedures
  • Direct quarterly cycle counts of all finished goods
  • Work with the Traffic Department in scheduling all trucks such that they are loaded as quickly as possible
  • Develop goals regarding service to customers including on-time delivery, document errors, etc. and a measurement system to determine progress.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of company fleet truck driver(s) which include identifying goods to load onto truck and determining the route of the truck.
  • Responsible for maintaining driver logs in accordance to federal DOT regulations.
  • Maintains company forklift trucks, fleet trucks, trailers and any other department equipment by scheduling routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs and maintain records of such.
  • Responsible for forklift operator certifications by maintaining records and providing and setting up training if necessary.
  • Conducts operations so as to meet established cost standards for use of materials, supplies, and equipment. Follows instructions in the most efficient use of tools, machines and materials.
  • Promotes and supports plant safety rules. Identifies and eliminates any safety or hazard concern.
  • Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself, of others, or to property. Defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation.
  • Requires regular attendance to perform essential element as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.
  • Performs work as those supervised.
  • Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities

Education and Experience:

Education

Associates degree in a technical or business program or equivalent

 

Experience/Knowledge:

  • 5 years or more experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • 3 years or more in experience in Shipping/warehousing/logistics/transportation
  • Forklift Experience
  • Experience and knowledge systems pertaining to shipping and receiving.
  • Experience and knowledge in computer systems pertaining to transportation
  • Experience and knowledge in Microsoft applications

 

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • College Degree
  • CDL Class A
  • Epicor
  • Lean Manufacturing/Kaizen

 

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Sitting at workstation approximately 60% percent of work time. Standing and walking approximately 40% percent of work time.
  • Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.
  • Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces.
  • Typical warehouse environment
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop/twist, crouch/squat, reach above and below shoulders.
  • Requires repetitive use of arm, wrist, and hand.
  • Must be able to work near/with machinery and hand tools.
  • Moderate/heavy exposure to heat and excessive noise.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including hearing protection, safety glasses and steel/composite toe shoes.
  • Annual hearing tests are required
