Director, Liability Claims - Risk Management Claim Services, Inc.
Responsible and accountable for production by the liability claims team, including performance measures and compliance with processes, audit guidelines, investigative practices, evaluative measures, reserving adequacy and proper disposition of bodily injury and property damage claims. Provide direction, supervision, coaching and mentoring of the Liability Claims staff in the handling of automobile and general liability claims brought against a Landstar entity. Directly handle a workload of the more serious liability claims and/or cases in litigation as assigned by the Claims VP. Work closely with the Claims VP on high exposure matters.
Direct reports include the property damage and bodily injury claim handlers. Position is responsible for the direction, coordination and evaluation of claims handled by the liability staff.Responsibilities include training recommendations, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and/or disciplining employees; addressing and resolving claims issues and ensuring compliance with the organization's policies and applicable claim regulations and laws.
General understanding and proper application of tort and contractual law
Understanding of legal terms, concepts and civil procedure
Ability to interpret and assess medical terms, conditions, related injuries, treatment and prognosis
Ability to interpret insurance contracts relating to Auto, GL, WC, UM/UIM and PIP
Ability to quickly recognize potential risk exposures resulting from accidents
Demonstrated use of sound judgment and decisions in determining claim outcomes
Ability to interpret and analyze behavioral traits
Working knowledge of accident reconstruction and other expert vendor services
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with lawyers and medical professionals
Ability to determine adequacy of claim and expense reserves
Experienced in handling and negotiation of high severity claims
Experienced in managing a staff of claims adjusters
Must be extremely flexible and responsive to claim needs including after-hours accidents
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
A minimum of 10 years related and progressive experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
