Senior Bioinformatician For The Immune Epitope Database
Are you well-versed in bioinformatics application development? Do you have a background or strong interest in immunology? Do you want to make an impact towards creating a Life Without Disease? If so, we may have the ideal role for you in the Peters Lab at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI).
The Immune Epitope Database and Analysis Resource (IEDB), a freely available online resource supported by NIAID, was founded in 2003 and continues to be expanded as our understanding of immunology evolves. The IEDB is an incredible resource that supports researchers in the fields of infectious disease, allergy, autoimmunity and transplantation, and has been further mobilized in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
Be sure to check out our latest publications in Cell and Cell Host Microbe, where the IEDB has been used to analyze and predict immune targets in the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. These studies are now being used to learn more about immunity, cross-reactivity and vaccine development for coronaviruses.
Specifically, the Peters Lab is an interdisciplinary team of scientists working towards understanding, preventing and curing immune-related diseases by accurately translating immunological questions into a computable form. The overarching goal is to continue serving the scientific community by providing a one-stop resource to both catalog and analyze a wide-range of immunological and epitope-related data, using statistical and machine learning algorithms. This will ultimately improve the study, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

How can you help? The Analysis Resource component of the IEDB hosts powerful tools that analyze immunological data and predict T cell and B cell epitopes. We are seeking qualified candidates to join this team in refining and expanding our current tools suite. Positions are available at the level of postdoc and above.
Candidates with outstanding skills in at least two of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Software development (programming in Python preferred, or proficiency in other programming languages; Unix Shell; version control)
- Systems engineering (modern systems architecture design, with a particular focus on container orchestration)
- Immunology (especially adaptive immunity and epitope recognition)
- Data analysis techniques (statistics, data visualization, machine learning)
- Knowledge representation (database systems, RDF/OWL, OBO ontologies)
How to apply: Interested candidates, please upload your cover letter and resume in a single document here. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
