Weekend Aquatics Coordinator
General Function:
Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Director or designated supervisor and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA, the weekend aquatics coordinator will provide support and leadership in all aspects of Saturday group lessons, supervision of lifeguards and swim instructors and pool operations to include scheduling swim lessons to meet the needs and demands of the program, scheduling lifeguards and swim instructors and pool management and maintenance at assigned pools (some pools are open seasonally). This position includes ensuring the safety of all patrons in the pool area, leading and coaching and providing excellent member service.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 21 years of age.
2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in lifeguard or 1 year aquatic programming and prior supervisory experience.
3. Pool Operator certificate required.
4. YMCA certifications in lifeguarding and swim lessons.
5. YMCA lifeguard instructor and YMCA Swim lessons trainer preferred.
6. Certifications in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2
7. Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment upon hire and annually thereafter.
8. Must have satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.

4. Administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
5. Supervise and manage aquatic programs in accordance with established goals and policies.
6. Advise supervisor on all phases of staff organization, programs, and plans for future growth of the department and budget.
7. Maintain relationships with members and program participants through verbal and written communications and strive to encourage the growth of membership participation.
8. Act as a leader in emergency situations. Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan.
9. Follow department Platinum Standards.
10. Assist in supervising, training, and scheduling staff.
11. Responsible for updating and maintaining the communication between staff and leadership.
12. Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
13. Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate.
14. Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of health, wellness, and aquatics programming.
15. Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the Aquatics Department and branch operations to ensure an excellent member experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA’s policies and applicable laws.
2. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Skills and Ability Requirements:
1. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.
2. Ability to pass lifeguard water test and meet requirements of ongoing drills.
3. Must be able to remain alert.
4. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
5. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
6. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
7. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
8. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
9. Ability to supervise staff.
