Job Summary Support Staff:  St. Elizabeth’s Recovery Residence is for homeless men in very early stages of recovery. Support Staff provide a key role in delivering a supportive, safe, secure and dignified residence in which individuals can develop a culture of recovery and empowerment within the framework of Project HOME values and mission. Support staff may or may not identify as a person in recovery but must have a

basic understanding of recovery.  Support Staff strive to empower individuals to connect resident’s hopes, dreams and goals around their personal recovery journey by utilizing evidence based interventions to empower residents to make informed choices while increasing their recovery capital and natural supports. Support Staff provide recovery-oriented support that lead to personal growth, well-being and self-sufficiency. The Support Staff is key to maintaining the peace and quiet enjoyment of the community; assist in orienting new residents to the SERR program and protocols; maintain security
and telecommunications system.

Full time – 40 hours (3 PM-11 PM)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Interact with residents providing support to ensure their safety and well-being.

·       Provide initial support and engagement to new residents and assist them with necessary items such as linen and personal hygiene items, laundry assistance if needed

·       Conduct rounds of each floor, including checking the safety and security of residents, and that the building is secure and monitors are working properly, document rounds accordingly.

·       Answer telephone calls and take accurate and detailed messages.

·       Monitor front and back door access, movement of residents and general safety of the building.

·       Maintain situational awareness at all times and use de-escalation strategies to maintain a calm and welcoming environment, providing individual and group interventions as needed.

·       Although minimal interaction due to night shift, where appropriate, direct all visitors, volunteers and guests to sign in and out of building.

·       Ability to use Narcan and other life saving measures in case of accidental overdose and/or illness that may require emergency intervention or resuscitation.

·       Conduct on-going searches of personal belongings and bags of residents to ensure a drug and weapon-free facility.

·       Be familiar with emergency/crisis procedures.  Contact emergency services and on-call staff in case of resident emergency or property emergency (flood, fire).

·       Document all necessary information in the Shift Log and notify on call staff for all emergencies.

·       Establish and maintain healthy relationships with residents, including facilitating recovery and community building groups and activities.

·       Identify maintenance issues and submit work orders to Property Management.

·       Conduct random drug tests as directed by Supervisor.

·       Assist residents with key access to their unit when locked out.

·       Supervise monthly fire drills and document according to the policy.

·       Receive and document food fees and receipts as procedure requires.

·       Responsible for checking resident chores before they leave the building.

·       Attend and participate in staff meetings and supervision as scheduled.

·       Attend required trainings as scheduled.

·       Generally this position is managing the residents alone at the site for most of the shift with on-call support assistance as needed.

 

Documentation

and Data Entry:

·       ETO data entry as required   

Kitchen Support Activities:

·       Prepare and serve meals/snacks at designated times as required.

·       Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, oversee kitchen cleanup (washing dishes, empty trash as needed, etc).

Medication Monitoring:

·       Assist resident to comply with taking their prescribed medications per medication monitoring policy and protocols.

·       Review medication supply for each resident and create list of medications to be called into the pharmacy for refills.

·       Organize medication logs for each resident and maintain Medication Records (MARS Sheet) for the month.

·       Receive and document all medications brought in by residents. Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:
 
·       High School Diploma/GED 

·       ServSafe Certification

·       Very strong communication, organizational and documentation skills.

·       Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Applications).

·       Knowledge and experience with mental illness, issues regarding homelessness and addiction.

·       Knowledge of crisis intervention, de-escalation.

·      Ability to work well in a team context
 

Preferred Qualifications:

  •    Peer Certification (CPS or CRS)
  •     Bi-lingual Spanish/English
  •   Valid Driver’s License
