HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION?

The Director of Information Systems will support San Diego Zoo Global’s mission of saving species worldwide by driving the Information Technology architecture, operations, systems governance, IT security, oversight and growth of the IT infrastructure. This includes identifying appropriate technologies and managing key IT initiatives. The Director of Information Systems will report to the Chief Information Officer.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Provides exemplary IT customer service to entire organization, communicating effectively and efficiently.
  • Lead large IT projects, including the design and deployment of new IT systems and services.
  • Propose, design and develop IT systems, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Develops and update long-range plans for Information Technology needs. Establishes and adjust priorities on current and planned project activities.
  • Identify technology gaps and deficiencies by conducting risk assessments; develop plans to remediate.
  • Provide vision, strategy and leadership for delivery of comprehensive, validated cloud and on-prem security architectures.
  • Manage information security risk management processes, programs and strategies.
  • Design, maintain and test all IT Disaster Recovery Plans and documentation.
  • Responsible and accountable for complex services and applications requiring high performance, availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Work and coordinate with management and department heads across the enterprise.
  • Communicates with Executive IT and business leadership on health of the system and project updates.
  • Participates in education and training of all IT users as needed as related to technology systems and devices.
  • Provide recommendations as appropriate for upgrades, modifications, development of new systems and integration of new business technologies.
  • Coordinate team meeting schedules, building a strong team environment that is service-minded in support of business operations.
  • Coordination and oversight of IT support services vendors (examples: selecting vendors and negotiating cost-effective terms to managing providers and holding them accountable to set SLAs).
  • Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions.
  • Lead, coach and develop a passionate, engaged team of experts. Providing thought leadership, direction and best practices to the IT team.
  • Evaluates user needs, analyzes alternatives, and recommends automated systems approaches to meet those needs
  • Willingness to challenge and question the status quo, making recommendations for options and best solutions.
  • Oversees and participates in the evaluation, selection, and procuring of vendor supplied hardware and software
  • Lead, coach and develop a passionate, engaged team of experts. Providing thought leadership, direction and best practices to the IT team.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Candidates whose qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent specialized training. A valid California driver’s license in good standing is required.

 

JOB EXPERIENCE

  • 4-6 years of cyber security experience is critical to this role
  • Previous IT management experience
  • Database design and administration
  • Experience planning, designing, and implementing risk management processes for the organization.
  • Experience working with technical and functional resources and following an Agile based delivery methodology

IMPORTANT DETAILS

  • Location: Office environment supporting all locations
  • Duration: Temp to hire for a probationary period with conversion to regular based on performance
  • Positions available: 1
