SUMMARY:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for managing several commodities within the FVS Business Unit. Product Commodities include (but it is not limited to) raw materials, metal and aluminum fabrications, lighting, wire harness and electronics, hardware, fasteners, raw materials, rubber, plastics, fiberglass/composites, whole assemblies, etc. The Commodity Manager identifies, develops and implements supplier and product value stream improvement initiatives through effective use and support of the strategic sourcing process, cost targeting, supplier performance planning, supplier development and value analysis/value engineering processes (VA/VE).

The Commodity Manager may lead one or more supply management professionals for a given set of commodities.

This position requires the constant drive for improvement in all areas of supplier management, material planning and risk mitigation for specific commodities, including compliance of documented policies and procedures. The Commodity Manager will be responsible for working collaboratively across all functions, including operations, product quality, sales, engineering, finance, logistics and others, along with achieving Business Unit objectives, including an annual cost reduction target and Supply Chain Key Performance Metrics as defined by the Director of Purchasing.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:        

·         Support FVS and The Shyft Group’s Executive Management Team achieve company goals and objectives

·         Lead and manage one to five Supply Management associates with specific goals that support corporate objectives.

·         Ensure team members understand goal and objectices and the work processes required to achieve expected results. Maintain understanding of actual versus target achievement for each individual contributor and support them in closing gaps

·         Achievement of SCM KPI’s including on-time delivery, reduce lead-times and zero defects. Create and maintain development plans for each direct report which lists the most important training needs necessary to improve performance

·         Perform work of direct reports when required to meet process or learning targets.

·         Lead negotiations of at least ten (10) strategic long term agreements with key suppliers from $1-$50 million

·         Identify opportunities and collaborate with different functional departments and suppliers to implement product improvements and VA/VE initiatives

·         Experience in sourcing metal components and/or components and assemblies from Low Cost Regions (LCC) including Latin America, China and Taiwan and be able to achieve specific cost reduction targets.  

·         Must have Global Market knowledge for Raw Materials, metal components, hardware, electrical components, wire-harness, lighting, castings, fittings, and other commodities.

·         Conduct strategic sourcing for items or commodities, as designated by the SCM leadership team, which may include local/regional activities along with global projects

·         Understand and apply formal project management principles to work, as appropriate. Influence others to meet milestones and coordinate work of others. Lead cross-functional project teams

·         Manage relationships with assigned suppliers; successfully align suppliers' operating plans to achieve Business Unit’s objectives

·         Use market analysis to understand global influences to the supply base and create strategies to leverage these dynamics for the benefit of the Company

·         Successfully build and maintain contacts and relationships which span country and/or regional borders, as work may cross countries or global regions. Support special projects and the continuous improvement of processes and systems

·         Use market analysis to understand global influences to the supply base and create strategies to leverage these dynamics for the benefit of the Company

·         Lead supplier risk assessment and implement reporting structure, implementing LTA (Long Term Supplier Agreement) and execute supplier consolidation initiatives across all FVS locations

·         Identify cost reduction opportunities and collaborate with engineering, quality, and suppliers for implementation

·         Develop strategic sourcing initiatives for items or commodities

·         Understand and apply formal project management principles to work, as appropriate

·         Communicate and apply quality and engineering concepts at a high level with both internal and external resources, as required

·         Support special projects and the continuous improvement of processes and systems

·         Other tasks as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Business, Materials Management, Finance, Engineering, or Operations

·         Minimum of five years experience in Commodity Management, such as electronics, metal fabrications, castings, hardware, fasteners, raw materials, composites, whole assemblies or other automotive or specialty vehicle related commodities .

·         Experience in specialty vehicle manufacturing  (Truck, Bus, Agriculture, Construction, etc.) is preferred

·         Familiar or Experience with 5S, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

·         Experience with ISO/9001 or TS/16949 certifications or automotive related terms and manufacturing processes

·         Experience sourcing products overseas (globally) is preferred. Ability to speak and/or read multiple languages preferred. CPM (Certified Commodity Manager) preferred

·         Strong analytical and mathematical skills. Ability to extract conclusions from available data and “tell a story”.

·         Demonstrated project management skills

·         Demonstrated ability to perform cost analysis. Proven negotiation skills and strong and consistent attention to detail

·         Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task. Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities. Creative and innovative team player

·         Intermediate computer skills are required. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Sound judgment with the ability to make timely decisions

·         Demonstrated proficiency in team and individual development

·         In-depth leadership and sound decision making skills

·         Able to:

o    Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

o    Deal effectively with a variety of individuals at all organizational levels

·         Strong:

o    Communication skills, verbal and written
