The ancestors of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation existed many centuries ago as a community of people…a Tribe living together, farming, hunting and fishing to survive.

Much has changed since that time.  Today the Sycuan Tribe governs its Reservation, owns and operates a Casino and a Golf Resort, and owns a number of other business ventures in the San Diego Region.

Job Purpose:

Coordinates class schedules and provides administrative and clerical support to the Kumeyaay Community College Department

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates Kumeyaay Community College class schedules by meeting with local community college Deans and Chairs to coordinate semester class offerings, coordinating Kumeyaay Community College class dates and times with class instructors, updating class information on the Kumeyaay Community College web page, preparing and distributing class flyers, promoting class offerings to other Native Reservations, registering students, and collecting class fees. - 25%
  2. Provides administrative and clerical support to the Kumeyaay Community College by creating and revising departmental forms and documents as needed, preparing board meeting and presentation materials for Director approval, updating instructor contracts, entering data for annual budget and financial data spreadsheet for Director's review, collecting and tracking hours for sub-contracted instructors, and sending to Accounts Payable for processing. - 25%
  3. Assists Kumeyaay Community College instructors and students by collaborating with local community college admissions and records, ensuring offered class codes are available for students, assisting with class registration, and classroom handouts, and generating certificates of completion as needed. - 10%
  4. Provides initial customer service by answering incoming calls, greeting visitors, students, and employees in a friendly and courteous manner, screening and directing visitors and callers, answering general inquiries, relaying pertinent messages and inquiries to the appropriate person, and assisting Director as needed. - 10%
  5. Provides the Payroll Department with an accurate accounting of the Department staff's time and attendance by preparing, reviewing, and correcting submitted payroll information within the scheduled pay period, and verifying, recording and generating payroll adjustments. - 10%
  6. Monitors supplies and assets for the college by maintaining inventory of departmental supplies, ordering supplies as directed, processing purchase orders, reconciling bills, requesting payment for vendors and suppliers, conducting department monthly audits of inventory and assets, and researching and communicating findings to the Director. - 10%
  7. Promotes continued departmental communications by attending educational conferences, board meetings, and other meetings as needed, preparing and distributing meeting minutes, maintaining a professional department image, and consistently communicating and presenting information in a professional manner in all business interactions. - 10%

Job Specifications:

Education and Experience:


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Kumeyaay Studies Certificate


  • Education work experience
  • Tribal experience
  • 5 years of community college administrative experience or equivalent

Skills and Knowledge:


  • Working knowledge of Kumeyaay culture
  • Ability to interact effectively with vendors, team members, students, and visitors
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
  • Ability to compose, read, and edit written documents in the English language
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and assignments
  • Ability to complete office forms, documents and written reports
  • Ability to maintain filing systems
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Working knowledge of database applications
  • Working knowledge of MicroSoft Office Suite
  • Ability to appear for work on time
