Hanover Specialty Industrial - Senior Property Loss Control Consultant

Our Hanover Specialty Industrial (HSI) department is seeking a Senior Property Loss Control Consultant to join our growing team in a remote-based role, in/around the Los Angeles, California. Candidates will be required to travel up to 30% of the year of which 50% may be overnight travel. Candidate must currently reside in the greater Los Angeles area.


Position Overview/Summary:

  • Perform loss control site inspections of existing and prospective policyholders with all levels of complexity.

  • Generate technical property loss control reports designed to identify property loss control exposures and recommend appropriate controls to minimize the frequency and magnitude of potential losses.

  • Collaborate with Property Loss Control Risk Analysts to assist insureds in solving/resolving identified property loss control deficiencies.

  • Partner with the Technical/Project Specialist on various projects and initiatives within the loss control department to further develop technical knowledge of the processes and controls specific to the operations conducted at insured locations.

  • Partner periodically with less experienced Property Loss Control Consultants as a mentor as part of their continued development of skills in report generation, identifying property loss control exposures, and identifying appropriate controls.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Estimated time allocation (subject to change):

  • Conduct property loss control field inspections of existing and prospective policyholders including consulting with customers regarding solutions to identified property loss control exposures/deficiencies; Workload may fluctuate based on territory and/or experience level (45%

  • Generate technical property loss control reports and other related documents in conjunction with the field inspections carried out as outlined in the first bullet item (45%)

  • Provide input and contributing in the completion of various loss control related projects (5%)

  • Mentor less experienced Property Loss Control Consultants (5%)

Required Skills & Experience and Competencies:

  • 11 - 15 years in a technical and/or engineering related

  • BS in an engineering discipline preferred

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills

  • Basic understanding of NFPA Codes and Standards or equivalent (Factory Mutual Guidelines) is preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to use a personal computer, handheld devices and other standard office equipment

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time

  • Ability to travel overnight

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods (75-90%, as appropriate)

  • Able to work in a fast paced or stressful environment

  • Able to work extended hours during peak periods

  • Able to work cooperatively
