Lead Accountant, Corporate Controllers Team

Our Corporate Controllers team is currently seeking a Lead Accountant in our Worcester, MA location.  This is a full time, exempt role.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Operates with considerable independence to lead the accounting, reporting and controls processes for multiple key areas.  Work closely with business partners to effectively plan and execute accounting support for business expansion initiatives and meet internal/external audit and regulatory requirements. Partner and collaborate with other finance/accounting teams and lead or assist in various accounting/financial reporting projects and develop accounting technical knowledge applicable to the current business environment. May mentor and lead more junior team members.

 

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Serve as subject matter expert and point person for several major accounting and reporting technical areas. This individual must be able to analyze, review and evaluate financial statement data flows and relevant key controls. This includes being able to obtain a strong understanding and full view of the critical path: from front-end inputs, through system to system feeds, to back-end conversion to journal entries and reporting deliverables.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate higher risk areas due to the implementation of business expansion initiatives, including acquisition integration and other non-routine transactions, changes to existing processes and implementations of new systems. From a financial reporting perspective, this individual must be able to understand and assess both upstream and downstream impacts of these types of changes.
  • Proactively maintain an understanding of the strategic direction for financial system applications and any significant changes to significant accounting systems, data sources and/or data flows amongst systems.
  • Assist in the facilitation of the annual external auditor review of accounting and reporting matters and act as team liaison with both internal and external auditors on findings/issues related to internal controls.
  • Independently analyze emerging accounting issues and communicate potential resolutions, conclusions and next steps to management. Support business unit management through proposal of accounting/reporting strategies in areas with limited technology support and provide insight into process and automation improvement opportunities.
  • Drive qualitative improvements in accounting, reporting and controls to become more efficient and effective and to reduce/eliminate control deficiencies and out-of-period adjustments.
  • Prepare complex journal entries, reconciliations and supporting workpapers and/or perform detail review of moderate to highly complex journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Independently prepare and analyze complex financial statements, footnotes and sections of discussion and analysis. Confer with more senior team members or peers, as needed, to deliver a quality product on a timely basis.
  • Prepare critical analysis of accounting issues or new accounting pronouncements, provide findings in a detailed white paper, and present findings to management.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • Minimum of 4-7 years related industry experience, minimum of 4 years auditing or accounting/reporting experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred or equivalent work experience. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Experienced in reviewing and analyzing financial reports. This includes being able to obtain a strong understanding and validation of the critical path of underlying data: from front-end inputs, through system to system feeds, to back-end conversion to journal entries and reporting deliverables.
  • Ability to operate with considerable independence. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with various company personnel from multiple departments. Foster a team environment of learning and cooperation.
