The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has an opening for a Swim Instructor for The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Greenville, SC.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Aquatics Manager the swim instructor will teach individual and group swim lessons to a wide variety of age groups. The swim instructor will also maintain safety at a high level at all times while in charge of lessons. Ensure a safe aquatic environment by adhering to all safety standards and guidelines; Develop and foster good relationships with program participants and members; Responsible for the adherence to all policies and procedures of the Salvation Army; Teach swim lessons to a variety of age groups in a positive manner;while representing the Salvation Army in a positive light. Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives. Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of progress; for small children this information should be communicated to parents/guardians. Complete records and reports in a timely manner and return to Aquatics Manager. Participate in regular in-service training when deemed necessary by management. Develop water safety instruction materials for teaching all ages of water safety techniques. Use appropriate language and instructions with different age groups. Prepares and maintains weekly reports of aquatics programs and attendance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Life saving techniques; Knowledge  and application of swimming and water safety skills;knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills; understanding of facility characteristics,rules, policies and procedures; Good communication skills; good decision-making skills; ability to perform life saving techniques,CPR and first aid procedures in emergency situations

Education and Experience

High School Diploma ,or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years experience working as a life guard and /or  teaching swimming lessons; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities .
 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Red Cross Certified Water safety Instructor; Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, Current South Carolina's driver's license; and maintain an approved driver status per terms and conditions of the drivers Qualifications Manual found within the USA Southern Territory Workers Together Employee Manual. Work is performed in an indoor pool environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with chemical fumes and humidity.
