The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has an opening for a Lead Lifeguard for The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Greenville, SC.
Job SUMMARY
The Lead Lifeguard will ensure the safety and well being of members and program participants as it relates to any aquatic program. Will serve in the capacity of Manager on Duty for the Aquatics Department when Aquatics Director is not on site. Serves as the Senior Lifeguard in conjunction with the Aquatics staff members. Supervises staff of lifeguards(shift rotations, determining need for additional guards on-stand, ensuring that staff complete daily facility cleaning and other tasks as assigned and swim instructors.(use of specific areas of pool for lessons. Help with calling lesson participants in case of poor weather. Report incident to Director of Operations and complete all necessary paperwork following incident; Assists the Aquatics Director in weekly scheduling. Serve as lead customer service representative at Aquatics Desk in absence of Aquatics Director. Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling & leading lifeguard training in-service sessions; Assists the Aquatics Director in effectively utilizing the pool capacity in an efficient manner for all groups(members,non-member guests, lap pool users, rec pool users ,etc.) Check in with lifeguards to confirm they understand the upcoming week's posted work schedule. Interact in a friendly, professional manner with members and program participants; Ensure that the pool chemicals are monitored and adjusted as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Director/Certified Pool Operator; communicate with these parties ASAP if chemical readings are outside of state regulations(1.08.0ppm chlorine level; 7.0-8.0 pH level).Maintain pump room operations as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Director/CPO. Guards the safety of swimmers by providing constant, active surveillance of the entire pool area; embody this & reinforce proper surveillance for other guard staff; Directs and supervises the behavior of all swimmers to ensure compliance of pool safety rules: Provides emergency lifesaving assistance to troubled or drowning swimmers; performs lifesaving CPR and first aid; enacts the facility's Emergency Action Plan and contacts emergency medical assistance in according with certified practices and procedures; stays with the victim until emergency medical assistance takes over care of the victim. Teach swim lessons, as needed; maintain attendance records for classes. As needed, performing after hour cleaning duties; vacuuming pool, pressure washing the deck and pump room duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director/Facilities Maintenance Director. Ensure a safe aquatic environment by adhering to all facility-specific & industry safety standards and guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of life saving techniques; Ability to supervise swimmers and provide constant, active surveillance of pool activities in order to ensure swimmer safety and to respond to emergency rescue when needed. Ability to perform life saving techniques,CPR and first aid procedures in emergency situations. Ability to enforce all pool rules; Ability to organize and lead swim lessons; Ability to prepare and maintain up-to-date pool chemicals records.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D. And, 2+ years experience working as a lifeguard, teaching swimming lessons, and supervision. Or, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
Red Cross Certified Lifeguard(required)
Current South Carolina driver's license(required)
Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor(ideal, not required)
Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Instructor(ideal, not required)
Maintain an approved driver status per terms and conditions of the Drivers qualifications Manual found within the USA Southern Territory Workers Together Employee Manual
