Plant Operator

  • Assist, or operate independently, power plant equipment through computerized, electric, pneumatic and all control and monitoring systems and locally
  • Operate to meet market requirements maximizing personnel and equipment safety, reliability and efficiency
  • Take water samples and analyze for chemical constituents 
  • Make feeds and adjustments to maintain proper chemical controls
  • Operate and regenerate external water treatment equipment
  • Maintain records of analysis results
  • Direct subordinate grades
  • Report maintenance requests using Maximo
  • Use basic computer skills to accomplish assigned duties
  • Assist in developing operating procedures
  • Assist in Lock-out/Tag-out of equipment under his/her control
  • Maintain environmental compliance of operating plant
  • Share job knowledge freely and instructs and directs other employees
  • Take assigned readings and completes reports and records as assigned
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Watch Engineer
  • Maintain assigned cleaning station



  • Holds and maintains a minimum of Massachusetts Third Class Engineer’s License
  • 5 years of experience operating gas turbines, high pressure boilers, steam turbines and Heat Recovery Steam Generators
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the relationship between plant operations and energy markets
  • Has basic computer skills
  • Is physically and mentally fit to safely perform the duties of this job.
  • Has an excellent safety record
  • Must be willing to become a Bargaining Unit member of the Utility Workers' Union of America, A.F.L.-C.I.O, Local 369


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Climbing several flights of stairs
  • Opening and closing valves of various sizes
  • Working safely in hot environments
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 – 50 pounds
