U23430 - HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC-Maintenance & Repair
VSE Corporation is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Shop "D" with at least three (3) years of experience to fill a position in support of Fort Benning, GA.
Under the supervision of the Lead/Supervisor, performs the full range of work involving servicing, preventive maintenance, repair and modifications to military and civilian heavy equipment, tactical tracked vehicles, towed and self-propelled howitzers, tank retrievers, earth moving equipment, diesel power generators, light vehicles and trucks, mobile equipment and material handling equipment as well as fuel, hydraulic and electrical subsystems in accordance with pertinent technical manuals and bulletins. Must have a valid state Class "A" Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITES:
Perform the full range of overhaul and repair work on full-tracked and half-tracked military/combat tanks, tractors and vehicles to include fabrication, modification and experimental R&D work.
Performing all checks and repairs on all types of engines, to include their carburetors, transmissions, differentials, final drives, and their suspensions.
Diagnoses and repairs for all types of failures in 12 and 24 volt electrical systems while using test equipment and special tools.
Interpret and understand technical manuals or other documentation required for the independently diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults on military equipment make required repairs.
Document supply and maintenance repair actions manually or on military or commercial computer systems.
Operate equipment to check work, moves equipment in and out the shop, and evacuates equipment to support maintenance, as required.
Perform a variety of less complex maintenance functions such as changing oil and filters, lubricating, and repairing tires when required (or if necessary).
Disassemble, repair, and assemble military vehicles, equipment and systems.
Performs other allied trades such as body work, canvas repair, or differential seals, steering boxes, fuel injection pumps, hydraulic pumps, hydraulic cylinders when directed.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Hand tools, special diagnostic tools, gauges, and alignment devices.
Dirt, dust, grease and oils are always present. There can be exposure to chemicals that may burn and irritate the skin and eyes if proper personal protective equipment is not worn. Failure to follow appropriate safety procedures could result in cuts, bruises, shocks and strains. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, installation fire prevention regulations and published company work rules. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work requires prolonged standing or working underneath vehicles and equipment with periodic use of solvents. Frequent lifting of weapons and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds with occasionally assists in lifting weapons and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds.
High School or equivalent degree.
Minimum of three years work experience in heavy equipment, internal combustion engines and major chassis subsystems.
Valid state Class "A" CDL
Must be able to obtain and maintain a CAC if required.
