POSITION SUMMARY:

Stay & Play presents an opportunity for early child development while meeting the needs of parents and family members who participate in Y programs and activities. While keeping children safe in a nurturing, caring environment, Stay & Play provides young children additional opportunities for holistic development, social experiences, and learning through play. Stay & Play elevates traditional drop-in child care to include key YMCA program elements, including healthy eating, fun physical activity, positive relationships and enriching activities. As with all child/youth programs in the Y, Stay & Play supports health and well-being, character development, and excitement about learning.

 

STAY AND PLAY ATTENDANT helps to carry out activities, experiences, and routines under the guidance of the supervisor. Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others

Uses a diverse selection of materials, equipment and experiences for all participants

Builds effective, authentic relationship with children and their parents.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Minimum 16 years or older

Six or more months working with children- ages 6 weeks to 7 years old-in a nursery or child care setting

CPR/AED (including Infant/Child) certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment)

First Aid certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment)

Complete all pre-employment trainings before first day on floor

Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults

Able to communicate and work effectively with groups of children and their parents in a loving yet professional manner.

Clear Criminal Record and C.P.S. checks, negative TB test

 Knowledge and maturity to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety practices and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques

Ability to manage the daily administrative, program-related and supervisory responsibilities of a Stay & Play program

Ability to be punctual at scheduled work times

Demonstrated ability to engage in all functions associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of program’s children

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Requires a person of maturity and good judgment, who can operate with a minimum of guidance from the Youth Director

Requires ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and issues

Requires effective team-building and team-leadership skills

Must maintain cooperative, functional relationships with senior leadership team, peers, and subordinates

Must maintain positive, energetic attitude toward YMCA work, goals, and values.

Performs the duties of direct reports as needed

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Has a proven ability and concern for youth, and a desire to positively influence their development

Has the ability and enthusiastic willingness to learn and lead games, crafts, songs and other program activities.

May be required to walk, stand, run, kneel, climb and stoop.

Must be able to sit on the floor and get back up

Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking.

Must be able to lift, pull and pull up to 50 pounds

Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time

Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications

 

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS:
